Kim Fowler: Spanish

I’ve been teaching since 2005 down at San Rafael High School and I’ve primarily done ELD, English, and some Spanish for Native Speakers and I really liked it down there. I always had an inkling that I wanted to get into education. I got a job at an elementary school down at San Rafael as their bilingual aide and I really liked it. It was trial and error and I needed to work in an office, and in this case, it was a law office, to realize that’s not the direction I wanted to go and I really enjoyed [teaching]. I think that I picked the right profession. I want to inspire a love and interest of the Spanish language and culture. And I also want [the students] to know that even though the class might be difficult for some people, if they persevere and they keep working at it, all the information that they learn in their classes will be so useful and applicable when they actually use it outside of the classroom.
