A New Way To Stay Connected

Sean Donlan, Reporter

Being in quarantine sucks. When It was announced, many people were excited, especially when spring break was extended to two weeks. As this pseudo vacation began, people began to realize what it meant. It meant being disconnected from friends and family. Though texting, phone calls, and Zoom meetings have provided brief contact to people not in one’s home, people need to “hang out” with other people. A way to do this electronically is with video games. Here is a list of console, computer, and phone games that you can play with friends.

Cross-platform games
To start we have to talk about the big two, Fortnite and Minecraft. Both of these games can be played on all three platforms (console, computer, and phone), and as a person on any platform, you can connect with a person on any other platform. This means if you are playing on your phone, you can play with someone who is on a computer, console, or phone. These games are going to be the only two on this list that is available on all three platforms.

1. Fortnite
Fortnite is known for being a battle royale style game, but it is much more than just that. Two other game modes can be played with yourself or with others called creative, and save the world. Save the world is a player versus environment (PvE) game where you fight monsters to level up your weapons and character. In this mode, you build a base and fight monsters that are trying to destroy it. In creative mode, you can build whatever you want using in-game materials. This means giant bases, sculptures, or arenas as well as simple computers, or calculators, that can be built without the use of modded materials.

2. Minecraft
Minecraft is a game that can be whatever you want it to be. There are three main modes to Minecraft, survival, creative, and multiplayer. Survival is a PvE experience where the end goal is to defeat the Ender Dragon. In this game mode, you have to find resources while under constant threat of dying from mobs (In-game animals) and the natural terrain. In creative mode, there is no end goal, and you can build whatever you want. This is the most relaxed game mode and is also the most accessible for new players. Without the constant fear of dying present in survival, you can let your imagination run wild. Multiplayer is the last game mode of Minecraft, and your experience in multiplayer can be whatever you want it to be. There are hundreds if not thousands of different games from hunger games to build battles that are available to players on online servers. In this mode, you can play with or against friends in a plethora of different ways. All of this is available through Player, and company run servers.

Mobile Games
Traditionally simple, mobile games are the most common way that people play video games, as a lot of people don’t have consoles or play games on their computers. Here are two games that can be played with friends on your phone.

2. Trivia Crack
Trivia crack is a free game where you compete against your friends in a multiple-choice trivia game. The goal of the game is to collect all six trivia characters before your opponent. The way to collect the characters is to get three trivia questions right in a row, and then to answer the question specific to each character. If you get the question right you add the character to your total, but watch out because your opponent can choose to steal your characters instead of getting new ones.
