Molly Zhou has committed to UCLA and will be majoring in business. Zhou hopes to pursue a career in business or business management, although she hopes to grow a lot in college and figure out exactly what she wants to do based on the classes she takes.
Zhou has enjoyed the unique aspects of bonding with other people through a shared passion for a sport during high school, playing for the varsity tennis team for three years and for the ultimate frisbee club for two years.
Zhou has also been a member of the Academic Decathlon team for three years and is one of the last students to have a part of the team under former leader Richard Pillsbury’s coaching: Zhou was inspired by Pillsbury’s coaching and was proud to contribute to his legacy of a successful team, saying “it shows that the team is what leads us far, not the teacher.”
Zhou also prides herself on her artistic abilities. Zhou has found a passion for painting and has taken art classes for eleven years to create pieces for her portfolio that portray how she views the world. Zhou has also been a dedicated musician throughout high school, playing oboe for the concert bands and the Santa Rosa Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Zhou has also volunteered at St. Joseph’s Petaluma Valley Hospital when she was still considering a career in the medical field and helped deliver mail and manage the front desk.
“You really need to have the internal drive to always work hard. You just need to find your own independence and fight for the things that you want — just always have that drive and faith in yourself.”
