April Lu
April Lu has committed to UC Davis and will be majoring in pharmaceutical chemistry. Lu hopes to pursue a career in pharmaceutical research.
Lu has played for the school’s volleyball team for the past four years, after picking up the sport in second grade. Lu has also found her passion in ultimate frisbee after joining the school team; Lu has since joined and played for a Bay Area Under-20 girls team for the past 2 years. Lu is now the captain of her U20 team and led the team to place fourth at the National Ultimate Frisbee competition for her division last year.
Lu conveys her disciplined work ethic through her rigorous work workload outside of school, such as her job — as a sterilization technician at Dr. Michael D. Zatto’s dentistry — and as an avid volunteer in her community, working in areas of her interest. Lu has been a Girl Scout since kindergarten and is now currently an Ambassador, working to organize and host events for younger Girl Scouts in her community. Lu has also recently started helping pique interest in the sport of ultimate frisbee through organizing pickup games for youths on the weekend. Lu has since started visiting the Kenilworth Junior High School track team to introduce ultimate frisbee to track athletes.
Lu is also a passionate musician and has been a part of school music programs since elementary school. Lu plays the baritone saxophone for the school concert and marching band and is first chair and section leader for the Symphonic Band. Throughout her years of being a part of music programs, Lu has enjoyed playing in myriad concerts for her community.
“Push through doing your work and don’t give up because when you wake up in the morning, it will all be done and over. Also, don’t do your homework in bed — you will be tempted to just take a short nap and finish later, but you’ll definitely regret it.”
