Vincero Immortalized

April 1, 2016

For the past month, students have been aware of the intense construction occurring in front of the sports mural on the side of the locker rooms; the ground has been leveled, concrete curbs have been poured, and a stone pathway has been laid. The area is soon to become a memorial dedicated to the late James Forni and immortalize his contributions to the school.

This construction is the product of eight seniors who decided to construct the memorial for their Project SERVE. Senior Nic Petri describes the plan for the project, and what it will look like once the construction is complete.

“We are renovating and remodeling the area in front of the mural to make a memorial walkway for Mr. Forni. The whole area will have a curb around it and halfway through, at the center of the pathway will be a podium with a plaque and on top of the podium will be the Vincero ‘V’ that we all know. That’s the basis of what it’s going to be,” said Petri.

The project is being supported by a number of local businesses, including Oak Grove Construction and Ohana Construction. Petri designed the plans for the project using AutoCad in his drafting class at school with the assistance of Mr. Billings.

The process involved multiple stages of planning; they had to draw the initial sketches, create them on the AutoCad program, and then implement their ideas into action.

The goal of the project is to preserve the memories that Forni gave to this school.

“Mr. Forni was a great influence on this school and our community. His outlook on life and perception on how students should be taught and dealt with and coached outdid anything else any other teacher has done here,” said Petri.
