POLL: Academy Award Nominations
The Academy Awards, also called the Oscars, is an awards ceremony to honor the movies and actors of the past year. The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 12 at 5 p.m. The nominations for the awards were announced on Tuesday, Jan. 24, and speculations have begun about who will win each category.
Casa Grande students took a poll where they were asked to vote on who they thought would win in each of these Oscar categories: Best Picture, Best Animated Film, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress.
It was a very close race, but the results are as follows:
Best Picture
- “Avatar: The Way Of The Water” – 29.9% of the votes
- “Top Gun: Maverick” – 26.4% of the votes
- “Everything Everywhere All At Once” – 21.8% of the votes
- “Elvis” – 9.2% of the votes
- “All Quiet on the Western Front” – 4.6% of the votes
- “Women Talking” – 3.4% of the votes
- “The Fablemens” – 2.3% of the votes
- “Triangle Of Sadness” – 1.1% of the votes
- “The Banshees of Inisherin” – 1.1% of the votes
- “Tár” – 0% of the votes
Best Animated Film
- “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” – 65.9% of the votes
- “Turning Red” – 20% of the votes
- “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” – 7.1% of the votes
- “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On” – 4.7% of the votes
- “The Sea Beast” – 2.4% of the votes
Best Actor
- Austin Butler in “Elvis”- 66.7% of the votes
- Brenden Fraser in “The Whale” – 22.7% of the votes
- Bill Nighy in “Living”- 5.3% of the votes
- Paul Mescal in “Aftersun” – 2.7% of the vote”
- Colin Farrell in “The Banshees of Inisherin” – 2.7% of the votes
Best Supporting Actor
- Ke Huy Quan in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” – 65.3% of the votes
- Brian Tyree Henry in”Causeway” – 12.5% of the votes
- Brendan Gleeson in “The Banshees of Inisherin” – 8.3% of the votes
- Barry Keoghan in “The Banshees of Inisherin” – 6.9% of the votes
- Judd Hirsch in “The Fabelmans” – 6.9% of the votes
Best Actress
- Michelle Yeoh in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” – 48.6% of the votes
- Ana de Armas in “Blonde” – 21.4% of the votes
- Michelle Williams in “The Fabelmans” – 12.9% of the votes
- Andrea Riseborough in “To Leslie” – 10% of the votes
- Cate Blanchett in “Tár – 7.1% of the votes
Best Supporting Actress
- Angela Bassett in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” – 69.2% of the votes
- Stephanie Hsu in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” – 14.1% of the votes
- Jamie Lee Curtis in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” – 12.8% of the votes
- Hong Chau in “The Whale”- 3.8% of the vote
- Kerry Condon in “The Banshees of Inisherin” – 0% of the votes
Casa’s students chose a variety of different actors and movies for each category, showing the different opinions and views of the student body.
With all of these great actors and movies, we know that the Academy will have a hard time deciding which candidates will win each award. Make sure to tune into the Oscars on March 3 at 5 p.m.
