Gaucho Sports Now – Release 7 (2022-2023)

Many Gauchos are coming to the end of many sports seasons over this winter season. Soon enough, the spring sports will be in full swing with no delay. But before spring sports are talked about, let’s wrap up things from winter sports. The end has approached for the basketball, soccer, wrestling, and cheer seasons. There will also be a sneak peek into the upcoming spring season for the boys tennis team.

BASKETBALL

The girls and boys basketball teams are sadly ending their seasons at Casa. The boys team, which had a rocky season, closed the year 5-20, earning the fifth overall standing in their league. Although the boys team experienced a frustrating season, there was an abundance of great games that provided optimism for the future.

The girls basketball team has had a great season overall, closing their season 17-10. Their tremendous play and commitment to the team earned them the VVAL championship; they currently hold a four game winning streak. Coming up, the girls will be hosting a playoff game against Windsor High School on Feb. 15.

SOCCER

The  boys soccer team at Casa capped off an outstanding season and ended the season 9-3-6. The team unfortunately lost its final two games against Vintage and Hayward, with the game against Hayward being the first round of the playoffs. Nevertheless, the team dominated their opponents, including the beatdown of their rivals, Petaluma High. They flexed Gaucho power in their 2-1 home win, and their 4-0 win at Petaluma.

The lady Gauchos have absolutely dominated on the soccer turf, and they are in the midst of a playoff run. The team has ended the season with an impressive 12-3-3 record and is currently on a seven-game winning streak. On Feb. 14, they beat Benicia with a score of 3-1 and they also beat the Trojans twice with an identical score of 3-0.

WRESTLING

The wrestling team at Casa Grande had 14 meets this season and have won first place in nine of their meets. Recently, the wrestling team had the VVAL championships and came home with first place for the third year in a row.

CHEER

The cheerleaders are a big part of Casa. They arrive at many of the games, such as football and basketball, to cheer on the Gauchos in the stands and on the field as they fight valiantly for victory. Recently, the cheerleaders competed at the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation regional championship) and got runner-up in their new division. When talking to sophomore cheerleader Natalie Shultz, she summarized her thoughts on the championship.

“We gave it our all on the mat, and I am so happy we performed. I had an amazing time here with my team,” she stated.

BOYS TENNIS

Approaching the arrival of the spring season, the boys tennis team has started their after-school practice sessions. At present, they are conducting “ladder matches”, which will determine the line up of the team for the season. With a handful of seniors on the team, they are looking forward to their final season competing as a Gaucho. Make sure to support these hardworking tennis players out on the court!
