Casa Grande’s 2024 Spring Fling was a great hit. Students, from freshmen to seniors, expected a good time, and that was definitely delivered. Before the dance, there were two different ways to get a ticket. The first was traditional; at the attendance office, for the week of April 29 to May 3, tickets were sold for $25 without an ASB sticker, and $20 with. The second was ASB’s “Spring-Fling-Posal Contest,’ which awarded two free tickets to the student with the best proposal for the dance.
With the ‘Fling-Posal’ challenge, students went all out with their different posters and ideas. However, for this contest, there was a small twist; the competition was “Sadie Hawkins” style, meaning girls asked guys to go with them. This did not stop the challenge though, and from posters and footballs to U-HAULs and decorated streets, there were only two people to get a prize. In second place, winning one free ticket, was Senior Valeria Reyes, who asked out Angel Aviles with an entire U-HAUL truck, reading “Angel Will U_HAUL Me to the Spring Fling”. And in first place, winning two free tickets, was Sophomore Julia Clary, who asked out Gustavo Marin Buenfil by decorating the street outside of his house, and holding a sign for when he walked up the road to “Sh-Boom” by The Chords.
Arriving at the Rooster Run Golf Course, cars were pulling both in and out of the driveway at 6 PM sharp, and the parking lot was packed. After parking, and walking up to the entrance of the dance, the line went by surprisingly fast. There was a bag check and breathalizer test, though both went by fast despite the large number of kids. Once inside the doors, the dance floor was straight ahead, with an outside lounge area beyond the D.J. stand. On the left side of the dance floor entrance, there was a large room with multiple different tables inside, as well as free “build-your-own” tacos. To the right of the music area were the bathrooms. Overall, the layout was easy to remember in order to get around quickly.
Once the doors had shut for everybody to get inside, the dance floor was packed with people jumping around and singing to all the different songs blaring through the speakers up front. Near the back of the room, there were cups of water and lemon water set out, in case screaming “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepson or “Low” by Flo Rida was drying your throat out. Many times, a large circle was formed, with different people running through and jumping to dance in the middle before the crowd ran in on them.
Aside from the dance, all the students had different dresses and outfits for event, with all of them looking great in their own styles. From flowy, flower dresses, to tighter solid-colored dresses, as well as the complimenting suits or ties for the matching couples, everybody looked amazing. Different pictures of people, from their couples, duo-friends, or group photos, showcase different styles and flair among people.
At 8:30 PM, a half hour before the dance was said to end, the doors opened to let out those who wished to leave early, though many stayed behind to continue dancing. Only 20 minutes later, around 8:50, the D.J. announced the last song, which left everybody who stayed behind looking sad. However, for juniors and underclassmen, there will always be next year for more dances. As for the Seniors, Prom is only a few weeks away on June 1st, with the theme being “Meet Me At Midnight” at the San Francisco Exploratorium, from 7 pm-11 pm. And for all, there are sure to be many different, family and friend, parties and gatherings to go to and dance at. So don’t be sad it’s over, be happy that it happened. And next time go all out for those proposals; free tickets don’t add up to nothing!
