As the school year comes to an end, seniors have many priorities to manage, including college decisions, finals, scholarships, and more. Additionally, seniors have their Capstone project. This project has been at Casa Grande for many years and continues to be present.
The first phase of this project involves seniors creating personalized websites, a digital representation of their commitment and growth. The website consists of a biography about themselves, talking about them in the past, present, and where they want to be in the future. Then seniors will describe how they meet the graduate profile outcomes, which are broadly literate, civically engaged, highly employable, and personal vision. Throughout this process, Casa Grande English, Government, and Economics teachers provide vital guidance and support to seniors with this project.
Seniors are then required to complete 20 hours of community service that contribute to these graduate profile aspects. Una Vida, Redwood Empire Food Bank, and PEP Housing are a few organization examples where seniors have fulfilled their hours. Upon finishing their service, seniors will go onto their website and tie together how their service connects with their personal vision goals. Seniors will also write a community service statement about what they did and the outcomes. Evidence documents of the fulfillment are also attached to the website as proof that the senior did complete the requirements.
As the culmination of the Capstone nears towards the end of May, seniors will be interviewed by their teachers, and community members about their project. They will be asked questions about how the capstone fulfills the graduate profiles and will also receive valuable feedback.
That said, this helps seniors become involved in their community and gain valuable experiences, strengthening their attributes for future job opportunities and more. Seniors become active members of their community and are equipped with practical skills.
