One of the biggest aspects of Casa Grande’s Drama class is the showcases. The students spend months learning, selecting, and reshersing different songs, monologues , and scenes to compile into one performance. Their last showcase of the year took place on May 10th.
The students worked tirelessly in rehearsals and in their classes to prepare for the show. Senior Antonio LAST NAME helped to make the show interesting and entered by writing a script to incorporate into the performances. The students were led by Cloud Hairston who put effort into making the show the best it can be.
“One of the biggest challenges was getting everyone to loosen up. For example, when we are running scenes, and also making sure everyone shows up on time. For me, also just directing it was a challenge, but I do think everyone is well prepared for the show.” says director Cloud Hairston when asked what his biggest challenge was as director.
On the night of May 10th, the students arrived early to prepare for the show at 7 P.M. The students helped prepare the drama classroom in G3 to make it suitable for an audience to see their show. The students were able to quickly run through their transitions and scenes in order to make sure the show would flow smoothly.
“I’m really excited for the show. I’m doing a monologue from the TV show Girls about a woman in rehab!” Junior Ava Haghighi when asked what she was performing in the show.
This was the moment that students had been tirelessly preparing for all semester. The chance to show the audience what they’d work on, and what they could do as performers. They had practiced and rehearsed over and over again, and now it was time to show it.
“They’ve been working on their scenes, monologues, and songs all semester. They’ve gotten lots of feedback from each other and from me. They’ve really improved since they’ve started and are more than ready for performance.” Mr. Mazer the drama teacher said before the show.
The Casa Grande Drama Students on May 10th put on a fantastic performance for the people in attendance. The show was funny, entertaining, and sparked awe of the fantastic students and their incredible acting and singing abilities.
