Mary Grehan: Art and photography
I have been doing art since I could hold a crayon. I can’t even tell you when I started doing that, it’s just how it is. I wanted to get back into a darkroom. I wanted to teach photography, as well as studio art. I am trying to blend the curriculum I have but really honor [Ms.Richter’s] curriculum and over time take notes. I am looking forward to seeing the program grow. But in the meantime I am just stoked to have a darkroom again and to teach art 1 and to fit into the art program, because it’s a really good program. Being a good artist is not necessarily about talent, you shouldn’t worry about what your level is. Drawing is a skill like any other skill, you can learn and be taught it. Don’t be scared off because [photography] is really technical, it’s a science class – chemistry and physics – but it’s also super fun. Don’t make choices on if it’ll be hard or if it’ll be easy. We are all artists. We all start out that way.
