Dragonball

Dragonball

Anime is often stereotyped as being a lesser form of media and entertainment. It’s not always shown the best light and most people either love it or hate it. That said, even if you aren’t into anime I’m sure you’ve heard of several, more mainstream ones such as “Naruto”, “Pokemon”, and of course, “Dragonball Z”. This is by far one of my favorite animes ever.

While the actual storyline in the Dragonball series is simple in nature it keeps you entertained throughout. What makes this such an iconic and entertaining series is the sheer brutality and emotion that is constantly on display, especially in the amazingly animated fights.

“Dragonball Z” is broken down into shorter series or sagas, which is nice because you can focus on and understand a certain problem that will ultimately relate to a greater issue, so you’re not straining to remember what happened 20 episodes ago.  “Dragon Ball Z” begins with the “Saiyan Series” which takes place about seven years after the original Dragonball. We see now meet the Saiyans, an entire race filled with cruel and ruthless alien warriors who invade and destroy planets. In the Saiyans is a villain named Raditz. He is on a mission to find his younger brother Kakarot, or, as we know him, Goku. With this said, we discover that Goku is part alien. It’s a shocking plot twist that I loved because it’s ironic that someone as kind and good-natured like Goku could come from a race of such brutal and bloodthirsty killers. The series then spirals into more sagas and the plot only continues to grow and get better!

Overall this is a great series that I would recommend to anyone looking to get into anime. The simple plot but amazing scenes makes it easily understood by anyone. Goku is one of the best heroes of all time! In addition to that, the morals presented in the show are worthwhile and powerful. The timeless message of good versus evil is ever present and both sides are wonderfully represented. We could also see that too much of a good thing is bad in regards to power. And lastly staying humble and being able to forgive are also personified throughout the heartwarming sections of this show. I would highly recommend to anyone! The only gripe that prevents me from giving this five stars is a problem that many animes have and that’s the fact that it can be a bit long for some people. Other than that, I hope you enjoy, but stay wary because once you’re hooked on a great anime, you can’t stop watching. Also, always remember: subbed, not dubbed!
