A Clinton Catastrophe
Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, has been involved in heated controversy regarding her use of a private email server throughout her 2009 to 2013 term as the secretary of state. Clinton sent emails from her private email server that were deemed “top secret” due to their similarity to a few other classified government documents. Her sending of these private documents through her personal account is an issue due to the lack of security used to protect her individual account. This security type is not at as high of caliber as the surveillance used to shield the restricted government documents. At first Clinton was reluctant to accept the blame for this scandal in fear that it would affect her presidential campaign, but eventually she accepted her fault. Over 1,500 of Clinton’s personal emails have been released as of Monday, February 29.
Up until now, Clinton has been running her Democratic campaign for president with her email controversy having little effect on her polls. She is leading for the Democratic party nomination, with a two to twenty-two point lead on Bernie Sanders based on recent polls. Despite the release of her confidential emails, Clinton remains ahead of Republican front runner Trump in respect to general election polls. However, if the Democratic representative is Clinton, the polls suggest that she would be lose the race against Rubio or Cruz. With the recent release of Clinton’s emails not seeming to affect her Democratic campaign, many Democrats will be hoping Trump wins the Republican nomination.
