Butte County Fires Close Sonoma County Schools
Update (Nov. 13): There will be no school on Nov. 13. School will be cancelled on Nov. 14 if the Air Quality Index is over 275. The districts will determine this using to Purple Air (https://www.purpleair.com).
Due to poor air quality, all Petaluma City Schools were closed on Friday, Nov. 9.
The Camp Fire in Butte County caused falling ash and smoke in Sonoma County, and the AQI (Air Quality Index) was over 200 on Friday, in an unhealthy range. As of Monday, Nov. 11, the AQI is around 117, which can be unhealthy for sensitive groups, but is otherwise safe. If you would like to check the AQI in Petaluma or in your area, visit airnow.gov for updated information.
The first day back, on Wednesday, Nov. 14, will be a A day at the school.

This is embarrassing. Good to know that our schools care more about being open than they do the health and safety of our children. Has anyone been outside lately? I went to the grocery store and after only a very short time of being outside, exposed to the smoke, I felt nauseous and my throat became irritated. These are only short term effects. If anyone thinks that this is okay, there should be more research done on the long term effects of smoke on a person, healthy or not. I am an adult so just think of the children who are still growing and have their entire life ahead of them.
