Netflix has a lot of content, but not everything is actually worth watching. Some shows and movies stand more because of their characters, story lines, and how they keep you interested. Here are my current top 5 best Netflix shows and movies.
First, “Stranger Things” is easily one of the best shows on Netflix. It is set in the 1980s and follows a group of kids: Eleven, Mike, Dustin, and Lucas. The group works together to deal with creatures from another dimension called the Upside Down. What makes this show really good is not just the actions and scary parts, but also the friendships between the characters. Viewers actually care about what happens to them. Characters like Steve also develop over time, growing from a typical high school guy to someone more responsible and protective. Overall, the mix of horror, mystery, and strong character development makes it one of the most entertaining shows.

Next, “Wednesday” is a really interesting and unique show. It focuses on Wednesday Addams, who is notorious for being emotionless, super-intelligent, and kind of dark. She attends Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts, and ends up trying to solve a murder mystery. What makes Wednesday such a good character is how different she is from everyone else. She doesn’t act like a normal teenager at all, and her dry humor makes the show funny in a subtle way. Other characters like Enid, her roommate, are the complete opposite of her, which creates a good contrast and makes their interactions more entertaining. The mystery aspect also keeps you guessing, so it’s not predictable.
For movies, “Extraction” is one of the best action movies on Netflix. Chris Hemsworth plays Tyler Rake, a skilled mercenary who is hired to rescue a kidnapped boy. His character is very serious and clearly has a troubled past, which adds more depth instead of him just being a random action hero. The movie stands out because of its intense flight scenes and long action sequences that feel realistic and not really overly fake. There are moments where it seems like he might actually fail which makes it even more exciting. The relationship he builds with the kid he’s rescuing also adds a more emotional side to the movie.

“Outer Banks” is another really popular show especially for teens. It follows a group called the Pogues, including characters like John B, JJ, Pope, and Kiara. They are all from the lower class side of the island and are constantly in conflict with the richer group called the Kooks. The main plot is about finding hidden treasure, but there’s also a lot of drama, relationships, and dangerous situations. JJ stands out as a character because he’s reckless but loyal, and you can tell he cares a lot about his friends even if he doesn’t always show it in the best way. The show is fast-paced, with a lot of twists so it keeps you watching episode after episode.

Lastly, “The Night Agent” is more of a serious and suspenseful show. It follows Peter Sutherland, who works a low-level job answering emergency calls at The White House. One night, he gets a call that pulls him into a huge conspiracy involving powerful people. Peter is a strong main character because he stays calm under pressure and always tries to do the right thing. The show is full of twists, and you never really know who to trust, which makes it very intense. The action isn’t over the top, but it’s realistic and adds to the suspense. It’s the type of show that makes you want to keep watching to find out what happens next.
Overall, these five shows and movies stand out because they all have strong characters, interesting story lines, and they keep you entertained the whole time. Whether it’s action, mystery, or drama, each one offers something different, which is why they are some of the best things to watch on Netflix right now.
