With music’s prevalence in people’s lives today, it’s little wonder that there is widespread attention given to the albums that are released by some of the current biggest music artists. Some of these most popular albums include GUTS by Olivia Rodirgo, Scarlet by Doja Cat, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) by Taylor Swift, all of which have been widely anticipated by fans.
Singer/Songwriter Olivia Rodrigo became popular in 2021 after SOUR, her debut album, had massive success. Rodrigo’s latest album, GUTS was released on September 8th and has been a massive hit with the hit single Vampire. The album has been on the Billboard Hot 100 list since its release, with the album getting hundreds of millions of streams on Spotify.
“My favorite is probably between Ballad of A Homeschool Girl and Get Him Back, but right now it’s Get Him Back.” Freshman Chloe Herdman said when asked what her favorite song from GUTS was.
Doja Cat is another popular singer and rapper, having been releasing music since 2018. Since her first album Amala, Doja Cat has continued to release albums and singles. Her 4th, and latest, album is called Scarlet. It was released on September 22nd and the album’s greatest hit is Paint The Town Red. The hit single has even surpassed Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo and has nearly 300 million streams on Spotify.
With the release of the albums, both artists have also announced they are going on tour. Olivia Rodigo is going on a world tour for her Guts album, with tickets already being in high demand across the 75 performance dates planned. Doja Cat’s Scarlet tour also had tickets, which were on sale in late June for dozens of her performances across the US.
Another artist that is going to release an album is Taylor Swift. Currently one of the biggest pop icons, with her widely successful Eras Tour and massive fanbase, Swift is going to release her new 1989 (Taylor’s Version) soon.
Swift separated from her label in 2018 after finishing her contract with them, as she wanted to own her own music. By separating with her old label she was able to re-record her old albums, now being able to acknowledge that she owns them, hence (Taylor’s Version). Swift has already re-recorded 3 albums, and the hit from 2014 is next on the list. 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is set to be released on October 27th, 2023. It is sure to be a massive success as some of her biggest hit songs, such as Shake it Off, Blank Space, and Style, are included, on top of several additional tracks from the “vault”. The “vault” consists of tracks that weren’t released with the original albums, but nonetheless, they have captured the adoration of fans
“I’m definitely most excited for the Vault Tracks,” Junior Sriya Madadi mentioned when asked what she was most excited for when Swift’s new album is released.
