Casa Grande High School’s culinary program hasn’t been competing in the Spark the Future competition these last couple of years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. That is, until now. Spark the Future was held in April at The Backdrop in Santa Rosa. Competing schools included Casa Grande, Sonoma, Healdsburg, and Piner.
Casa’s team tried out and worked hard for their spot alongside the club leaders that went to the competition. But it wasn’t just the team that helped out; it was all the classes that helped prepare and make food for this competition. After the hiatus, they won the competition this year, against all the other schools.
Casa senior Bella Elliott, president of the catering club and culinary teacher Ms. Gloria Gutierrez (“Ms. G”) discussed whether they had had doubts about winning. “Hard to answer. We knew how to win but there is always uncertainty.” They also commented on what other schools they thought could beat Casa: “Don’t know, any of them, there wasn’t really a competition.” Their favorite thing on the menu? “Hibiscus Lemonade and Gougeres Burgers.”

They were worried about “voting being unfair because it’s public voting, not actual chiefs,” and “vice judgment. Space issues.” They also shared that they are very proud of this win.
Casa was sponsored by: Sampell Creek Ranch and Point Reyes Cheese Company; Lace House Linen donated the chief coats for the competition. Follow @big.house.catering on Instagram
