AI is changing how students learn, do schoolwork, and process their thinking.
AI has a huge impact on most schools around the world, not just on students, but on teachers as well. When I think about Artificial Intelligence, I think of it as an easy way out of trying to learn. Many students, including me, believe that AI is simply just easier; it is, but not in a good way. AI is easier, yes, but in the long run, what is everyone going to do when we can’t rely on an app to answer our questions about topics we could easily learn? AI might be easier, sure, but thinking for yourself can be more rewarding.
Artificial Intelligence has become very popular in the past year. I think this is because many students at schools have a wide range of teachers, from some wanting them to actually learn to some just taking short cuts. Speaking personally, I’ve had teachers who just give information and don’t really try to get the concept or the topic in your brain to think about it. When teachers want you to learn, they ask questions about the topic to get you to think harder. I’ve had many teachers in my years, and the ones who feel like they care are the ones who ask questions, get to know you, have a passion for teaching, and actually want you to learn.
AI has taken over so much, not just the whole education system, but also global warming and ecosystems. AI has a heavy environmental footprint, uses vast amounts of energy, and so much water. This past year, the AI user population has grown by 300%, which is insane. AI has about 2.5 trillion dollars spent on it over the past decade. AI resources, like ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini use a large amount of energy; part of this involves an incredibly huge amounts of water to cool down the machines that are work these services. The increased energy usage can cause harm to the environment if not renewable.

In the past, I have noticed that some teachers around the Casa Grande campus use AI to help them as teachers, as we do as students to help us as students. That is not how it should be. I think having these resources don’t help us as learners for the future. When we realize that we are harming the environment and our brains by using an app to cheat around, we will see that this is not the way of trying to learn and teach. It might seem easier at the moment, but in the future we will all regret just cheating around, trying to make things easier for us.
